Joshua S. Phillips, Managing Partner

Joshua Phillips is the Managing Partner of Catalyst Health Ventures (CHV), an early stage healthcare and life science focused venture firm in the Boston area.  Josh leads Catalyst’s investment activities in all areas.  Josh represents CHV on the boards of Allegro Diagnostics Inc., Vortex Medical Inc., BioTrove Inc. (Chairman), HepreGen Corp., and Castel Inc. (Chairman) and previously lead CHV’s investment in Novazyme Pharmaceuticals (acquired by Genzyme).  CHV invests in companies developing technology applications in healthcare and life sciences, typically medical devices, molecular diagnostics, and tools and infrastructure for genomics and drug discovery.  CHV is an active investor, often a lead or co-lead, that focuses on forging partnerships with entrepreneurs and co-investors to deliver superior returns.

Prior to joining CHV in 2000, Josh was a Manager at the Lucas Group, a strategy consulting firm where he focused on engagements in the pharmaceutical, medical device, and technology industries, often involving a transaction.  Earlier, Josh founded and built a new business unit within privately held Russelectric, developing and deploying digital turbine control systems for power generation and industrial applications.  Josh began his career with the Government Engine Business within Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, developing and testing the digital control system for the USAF F-22 fighter engine.  Josh holds a B.E. in Electrical Engineering and Mathematics from Vanderbilt University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
